Indian currency [rupees] is not obtainable outside of India. Indior Tours recommends that clients do not exchange money on their arrival at the international airport or any other airport within the Indian subcontinent. Money exchange should be done at hotels. Please be aware that India has introduced 500 and 1000 rupee notes, but these are banned in Nepal. If carrying, these notes are liable to be seized and the individual carrying is liable to be fined or imprisoned for a period of three years. ATM machines are available in the major cities [Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad], but should not be depended on as your source of funds when visiting the smaller villages and towns.
